Buy a Disc Made from White Plastic
I’ve found that buying a disc of white plastic gives you the best Frisbee for Ultimate. There are a few different reasons why this is the case. First, white discs attract much less heat than a disc made of colored plastic. After playing in the sun, this makes a huge difference! White discs will still stay rigid and fly through the air better, while discs with colored plastic become more bendy, and won’t fly as far.
White discs also stand out against the green backdrop of the ground. A colored disc may not contrast as much with the grass, and be more challenging to focus on (especially for anyone who struggles with color contrasts).
Finally, in my experience, people enjoy using white discs more. Using a disc made of white plastic seems to be part of the culture of Ultimate. If you’re looking to fit in, buy a white disc (or if you’re a rebel, go with a different color)!
Choose Discraft
I mentioned this above, but there are many different brands that make discs for Ultimate Frisbee. Right now, Discraft is the standard for Ultimate Frisbee players. Believe it or not, discs made by different companies actually fly differently through the air.
99% of the time, you will be playing Ultimate with a Discraft disc. Buying a Discraft Frisbee will allow you to practice what you’ll play with. This way you can get used to the feel, and flight path, of the disc you will eventually be on the field with.
