Minnesota Strike Ultimate Announces Inaugural Season

On December 3rd, Minnesota’s first and only women’s professional Ultimate Frisbee team announced their inaugural season. Minnesota Strike Ultimate is gearing up for the 2020 season!

The Strike will be participating the Premier Ultimate League (PUL). The Strike are one of 4 new teams joining the league in it’s second season. The Milwaukee Monarchs, a sure-fire friendly border rival, is another of the new teams joining the league this season.

Tryouts for the 2020 Season

If you are interested in trying out for the team (and it is something I highly recommend, regardless of skill level), there is more information here, including an application form that needs to be filled out by Sunday, December 15th. They tryout will take place on Saturday, December 21st at 4pm, and will last about 3 hours. The tryout will take place at the St. Croix Valley Recreation Center.

You’ll want to bring cleats, water, a light and dark jersey, and probably some warmer clothing – it is winter after all!

Vision in the Community

The Strike is focusing on building a strong vision and supporting the Ultimate Frisbee community in Minnesota. A Free Youth Womxn’s Clinic is already scheduled for December 29th, for womxn grades 7 through 12.

The Strike has a clear vision, which is quoted from their website below:

“The team is guided by a three part mission: to provide visibility and support for elite womxn ultimate players, to promote equity in sports, and to build a more diverse ultimate community in Minnesota, and is proud to prioritize youth outreach as a core value.”

To show support for their vision, the Minnesota Strike has already gathered quite a few sponsors. From within the Ultimate Frisbee Community, they are sponsored by MN Ultimate, and VC Ultimate.

The 2020 Season

The 2019 PUL season began on April 20th, and continued with weekly games through June 15th. The season ended with Championship Weekend on June 28th and June 29th at the Silverbacks Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
